Lido has Broken Ground in Southeast False Creek

Colin Bosa was on hand recently to break ground as Bosa Properties is ready to start construction this month on their Lido condominium development in Southeast False Creek.

They report that pre-sales have surpassed expectations and that pre-construction pricing will come to an end soon. The sales centre will remain open on Quebec St until early June. It is open everyday from 12-6pm.

Vancouver Youth Week at Creekside Community Centre Saturday

Vancouver Youth Week 2012

This is Youth Week in BC and Vancouver’s Youth Week event takes place this Saturday May 5th at the Creekside Community Recreation Centre in Southeast False Creek. Starting at noon there is a full day of programming scheduled.

Events will include:

The SK8 Event - 1 pm – 4 pm

Head over to the Skateboard Plaza under the viaducts for the SK8 event. There will skateboard demos, write on the graffiti wall music, DJs, skate booths, and a whole bunch of free prizes.

Breakdancing – 11:30 – 2:30

A breakdancing comepetition in the Creekside Community Centre.

Bands – 12 – 5pm

There will be bands outside the Community Centre all afternoon.

Performances – 2 – 4pm

The Cultch’s Youth Panel present a sneak peek of the incredible Vancouver youth talent they will be showcasing in the IGNITE! Youth-Driven Arts Festival (May 14 to 19 at The Cultch) Performances in Music, Dance, Circus, Poetry and much more!

Race Around the World – RAW - 1 pm – 5 pm

An amazing race around city. There is a small registration fee. Entry forms can be found here. 

Night Hoops Basketball - 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm

The Night Hoops Basketball program will have their jamboree in the Creekside Community Centre. Between games there will be competitions and trivia and prizes between games.

Roundhouse Community Centre

Yes this one is the next day at The Roundhouse. Rap, Hip-Hop Dance, Singers, Songwriters, Spoken Word performances

Dragonboat Regatta  8 am – 1:30 pm

This is a great opportunity for those youth who have never paddled a dragonboat to learn how, and join in a race on the same day. There is a $10.00 plus HST fee for this one. You can register on the Dragonboat BC website.

Free Admissions for Science World  2 pm – 6 pm

Drop by the Vancouver YouthWeek info booth for an admission voucher to the Science World at Telus World of Science. You must enter between 2 and 4pm.

Open House at the Tap and Barrel in the Olympic Village

The Daniel Group’s latest restaurant venture is coming to the west end of the Creekside Community Centre in the Olympic Village this summer. To be called Tap and Barrel , they describe it as:

a neighbourhood comfort food eatery serving a menu with a flirtatious sense of fun and familiarity, and spectacular craft beverages served on tap and from the barrel.

This Saturday, April 28th, they are hosting an  Open House Meet & Greet from 3-6pm at the Creekside Community Centre at 1 Athletes Way. There is no cost, but they do ask if you can rsvp here.

I am a fan of The Daniel Groups other establishments, especially the The Mill in Coal Harbour, and hope they put together another great place here in Southeast False Creek. I have read somewhere that this could be the first of many Tap and Barrel’s that The Daniel Group is hoping to open in the future.

Meccanica Condo Developement By Cressey | Southeast False Creek

Cressey Developments, the developers of James, is getting ready to launch another condominium development in Southeast False Creek, Meccanica. This will be the third development along Quebec street, following the recent launch of Lido by Bosa, and last year’s launch of the iconic Central by Onni.

As they said in a recent email:

On this same site at First and Quebec, a company named Intermeccanica lovingly custom-created Porsche speedsters and roadsters. For over 30 years, their powerful design aesthetic ruled this spot. Soon, that same love of design will live on in Meccanica – in bold, automotive-inspired homes that embrace a refined, industrial style just like their namesake.

The site, the old Buster’s towing location between West 1st and West 2nd on the east side of Quebec Street, appears to be a little wider on Quebec than the Lido site, but the form factor of the building will be similar. They described it like this:

Rafii Architects, the architect team behind Donovan and James, have crafted Meccanica to include sophisticated architectural details rarely seen in this city: things like a classic exterior of galvanized metal and glass, and the grill-like look of its western facade. Inside, the unexpected continues. These are big impact homes, raw but refined. Starting with floors of polished concrete and 7-foot wide industrial metal door leading to your bedroom, to the super high gloss kitchen cabinets in Porsche inspired colours and air conditioning, there’s more glass, more metal detailing and more ceiling height – we’re talking over 9-feet! Not to mention, more Cressey deep thinking on how to make uberfunctional floorplans with a better overall flow, roomier feel and famous Cressey kitchen.
